i'm mariano.
i’m a photographer based in basel.
i've been photographing for as long as i can remember being someone. it was always already part of me. i'd rather observe than be noticed. i like seeing things that won't last, holding onto them, telling small stories through my own eyes.
i’m drawn to quiet moments the ones that sit somewhere between presence and absence. most of my work happens in natural light, without staging, without forcing anything to happen. i’m less interested in documenting how things look, and more in how they feel when no one is trying too hard.
i'm also a therapist. i spend my days listening to what's real in other people. i think it shapes the way i photograph, though i couldn't say exactly how. probably it makes me slower.
some weeks i shoot a lot. other weeks i don't pick up the camera at all. then i make music, or paint, or do something else that feels good. it goes in waves.
kensho is a japanese word from zen buddhism. it points to the moment of seeing things as they are. i picked it because i liked the sound, and because the meaning sits close to what i try to do. if anything here speaks to you, write to me. i like hearing from people.
